Day 1: Understanding Your Needs

Deep Dive: Journaling Prompts to Define Your Core Values, Energy Drains, and Non-Negotiables

Self-reflection is a crucial part of personal growth and self-care. Journaling provides a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. These prompts are designed to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself by focusing on three key areas: your core values, your energy drains, and your non-negotiables.

Understanding Your Core Values:

Your core values are the fundamental beliefs that drive your actions and decisions. Identifying them helps you live a more authentic and fulfilling life. Ask yourself:

  • What are my core values? Consider what principles are most important to you. Examples include honesty, integrity, kindness, creativity, freedom, family, and personal growth. Reflect on times when you felt most aligned with yourself – what values were being expressed in those moments?

Identifying Your Energy Drains:

Recognizing what drains your energy is essential for protecting your well-being and setting healthy boundaries. Ask yourself:

  • What situations make me feel drained? Think about activities, interactions, or environments that leave you feeling exhausted, depleted, or unmotivated. These could be specific tasks at work, certain social interactions, or even spending time in particular environments.

Defining Your Non-Negotiables:

Your non-negotiables are the boundaries you are unwilling to compromise. They are the essential limits you set to protect your well-being, values, and time. Ask yourself:

  • What are my non-negotiables? These are the things you absolutely will not tolerate or compromise on. They might relate to your physical safety, emotional well-being, time management, or personal values.

How to Use These Prompts:

Find a quiet space where you can reflect without distractions. Take some time to journal about each prompt, allowing yourself to explore your thoughts and feelings freely. There are no right or wrong answers – the goal is simply to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.
